Learn how to perfect your pitch to stand-out from the crowd - 7th Sept, 2017

Do you feel your business has a unique story that needs to be heard, but you’re unsure how to get it out there?

As a Huffington Post journalist, Libby-Jane Charleston receives up to 700 media releases and pitches per day. But there will only ever be one or two that stand out from the crowd. Why? Because most people do not know how to pitch to the media.

There’s an art to pitching. “I can name a handful of PR professionals who, almost every time they pitch me a story idea, I will snap it up, interview their client and get it published that week. But the others I delete immediately” says Libby-Jane.

What are their main problems? They range from badly written media releases or pitches, or not knowing the publication – for example pitching a cellulite treatment for a publication that does not cover beauty treatments – to media releases that are clearly sent to every single journalist in the PRs’ contact list. You need a news angle – journalism is not advertising!

Gone are the days when journalists will accept phone pitches. Writing a pitch is a skill, but it’s a skill everyone can learn.

The 101s:
– Learn how to perfect your pitch to stand-out from the crowd
– How to understand your audience and find the perfect channel for your story
– How to avoid common mistakes of media pitching
– Hone your pitch with practical exercises
– Have the rare opportunity to ask those burning questions to a highly experienced journalist

This Masterclass is for:
– Marketing or publicity representatives
– Business owners
– Entrepreneurs

Your Masterclass Instructor:

Libby-Jane Charleston is a journalist with more than 25 years’ experience in TV, radio and newspapers. She’s currently an associate editor of Huffington Post Australia and the editor of tech magazine Women Love Tech.  She’s also won several pitching contests at writers’ festivals in front of hundreds of people (it’s not easy to pitch in front of a large audience but once you’ve mastered your pitch, you won’t be nervous!).

Testimonials from previous ‘Pitch To The Media’ masterclasses

“What a fantastic and Insightful night! It really gave me an in depth understanding and new perspective of the publishing industry. Most importantly, now I understand the filtering process and how to pitch in a way that increases my chances of being published. There was so much great industry information and in only 2 hours. Of course everyone on the team were fantastic and very generous with their sharing of information. Not only that, but the people who attend are inspirational change makers. I left feeling so full and grateful for the experience. Thank you! I’ll definitely be attending more Collective Hub events”

– Jennie Keogh, Wedding Business Coach at The Wedding Experts
