7 Aussie Wellness Retreats That Will Reignite Your Spark

Weave back to you.

Missing your zest? Can’t find your X factor? There’s a good chance it’s ducked out for some R&R at a luxe wellness retreat. If you want to get it back (and kick-start some healthy habits in the process) head to one of these dreamy havens around Australia, where inspiration and restoration go hand in hand.

Golden Door Elysia Health Retreat & Spa

Book in to this Hunter Valley hideaway if you’re serious about rebooting your lifestyle and making a start on your health and fitness goals. Located in Pokolbin, with a 360-degree view of the Hunter Valley and Barrington Tops, Golden Door Elysia is all about clean living, great nutrition and getting active, balanced with rest and rejuvenation. Think tai chi at dawn, workshops on nutrition and mindfulness and, of course, take time for a spa treatment or two. A menu high in whole foods and low in sugar and fat will help you reset your health, while one-on-one sessions with experts in acupuncture, naturopathy and hypnotherapy will address any concerns. While you can book a two-night taster weekend here, though given the sumptuous lodgings, stunning location and the epic spa menu, we suspect you’ll want to see out the week.

Wish you were here on this magical Autumn night ✨ #goldendoorau #travel #sunset #huntervalley

Billabong Retreat

A 45-minute drive north-west from Sydney will land you in a pocket of pristine bush, where a cluster of timber cabins peek through the leafy canopy. The most luxurious of these offer outdoor claw-foot bathtubs overlooking a waterlily-adorned billabong – heaven for nature-starved city folk. If you can drag yourself away from the serenity of your digs, you’ll be treated to a relaxing agenda of yoga classes, meditation sessions, workshops and massages. There’s a range of programs to choose from and a day retreat option if you’re after a quick pick-me-up.

Gaia Retreat and Spa

Olivia Newton-John is one of the brains behind this boutique retreat in the Byron Bay hinterland, and we like her brand of wellness – think organic wines with your ridiculously healthy meal and luxurious suites equipped with a private outdoor hot tub. It’s also the kind of place you can check in and drop out – choose your length of stay and Gaia’s team will craft a schedule for you, weaving in activities like clay sculpture, cooking classes and ‘Let’s Get Physical’ fitness sessions. You’ll be running like grease lightning in no time.

KalyaaNa Spa and Wellness Retreat

If you can feel burnout brewing, this secluded eco retreat in Bridgetown, WA might just be your saviour. Their ‘professional and emotional burnout retreat’ package is designed to help restore your balance and ward off future frazzles with meditation classes, sound healing, reiki and art in counselling sessions. Naturally, there’s an emphasis on relaxation here, so expect to slot in a massage or three between oms.

LAKSA | This has got to be one of my favs! Tonight we served it up to our beautiful guest @minettereynolds0406 Lashings of tofu, Asian greens, fresh lime 🍋 coriander and chilli 🌶 Laksa is a popular spicy noodle soup in the Peranakan cuisine. Laksa consists of rice noodles or rice vermicelli with chicken, prawn or fish (except here we've used no animal protein preferring tofu & cashews) served in spicy soup; either based on rich and spicy curry coconut milk, or based on sour asam. #laksa #coconut #lime #chilli #plantbased #plantbaseddiet #plantbasednutrition #vegan #veganfood #veganfoodshare #vegansofig #vegansofinstagram #vegansofaus #vegansofaustralia #veganretreat #wellnessretreat #healthretreat #healthystayz #wellnesstravel #wellnesstourism #travel #chef #eat #culinarytourism #restaurantaustralia #getaway #tourism #downsouth #beautifulbridgetown #kalyaanaretreat

Samadhi Retreat

Need some space? You’ll find it at this unique getaway near Victoria’s Daylesford, which caters to just one person (or couple) at a time. The exclusivity means a totally bespoke approach to R&R. Bliss out in your own private spa, choose a session from the extensive wellness menu (options include dream therapy and polarity healing) or opt in for a ‘life shaping’ package to align mind, body and spirit. The dreamy bedroom with floor to ceiling windows overlooking treetops should help you get in the zen zone.

Harmony Harvest Health Retreat

With its glassed-in private spa, luxe two-storey cottages and wild bush setting, this retreat near Hobart is highly Instagrammable – but we suspect you won’t have much time for your phone here. The five-day retreat package will keep you busily blissed out with Ayurvedic massages, facials, chakra healing and gentle yoga classes, or you can simply spend a day (or two) soaking up the serenity, sauna and spa.

Gwinganna Lifestyle Retreat

Tucked away in the Gold Coast hinterland, the glorious rainforest setting of this retreat could be all that’s needed to melt your stress. Either way you’re in the right place for rejuvenation – Gwinganna offers an extensive range of wellness programs, from a weekend reboot to a week-long detox. Mornings are when the active rejuvenation happens: think moving meditation at sunrise, followed by your choice of fitness classes and bush walking, leaving afternoons free for ‘dreamtime’ (read: massages and lounging). Stress, consider yourself busted.

Lyndal

I agree with most of the recommendations on wellness retreats as have been lucky enough to have spent time at The Golden Door & Gwinganna Lifestyle retreat. Both of these exceeded my expectations. I stayed a few years back at Samadhi Retreat and couldn’t wait to leave I certainly didn’t have a feeling of calm or Bliss staying at this retreat. It was very creepy here to say the least. I left thoroughly disappointed with the program offered here. Please be sure to look into your needs before shelling out several thousands of dollars for an experience that left me feeling more anxious than when I arrived.
