5 Hacks That Will Change Your Work Day

Don't neglect your beauty routine.

Cloud-9-bodyElevator pitch? Sorted. Funding? All over it. But don’t neglect the daily routine that helps makes you feel great – it’s here you’ll uncover your savviest productivity hacks.

Hack 1. 10-minute hair

With a 30-minute blowdry being a desirable – but highly impossible – daily (particularly when the snooze button is a much more attractive offer), here’s how to knock over stylish workday hair in under 10 minutes, care of Cloud Nine Ambassador Lauren McCowan.

STEP 1: On towel-dried hair, apply a styling lotion and blast your hair dry. Brush hair into a high or low ponytail as desired, and secure.

STEP 2: Using the Cloud Nine Wide Iron set to 175 degrees, take large sections of your ponytail and curl from the base of the ponytail to the end. Leave to cool. Once the ponytail is done, spritz with a light hold hairspray.

STEP 3: Pull out some flyaways at the front hairline and smooth with the iron, moving away from the face.

STEP 4: Brush out your ponytail and finish with some shine spray.

Hack 2. Try this sneaky lip trick

Between the air con and the over-heating, work can be an environment of extremes. But we’ll be damned if we can track down that lip balm easily (it’s about as elusive as a spare hair tie, am I right ladies?) Protect your pout by moistening a green tea bag and placing over your lips for five minutes before bed to magically repair chapped or dehydrated lips. It’ll take two minutes in the lunch room and you’ll be grateful for hours.

Hack 3. Adopt a weekly wardrobe strategy

Long days mean we often don’t have time to pay careful attention to our 9-to-5 ensembles. Yet when it comes to choosing an outfit, a 2011 survey by Payscale showed that men who dress for success can enjoy bigger incomes, while a study by the American Psychological Association found looking the part helps increase job stability. Just think of how you could use that time spent pulling together outfits every morning for far more important tasks at your desk. And while some recommend choosing your outfits the night before, try doing a week’s worth all in one go. Next time you do a load of washing, hang each item of clothing on a hanger complete with a full look, from top to bottom. Cue prepped and ready to go.

Hack 4. When life gives you lemons… sniff them

With smell being one of the most powerful human senses, changing up that common office whiff of stale coffee can do wonders – even including increasing your brain function. A study conducted by Japanese fragrance company Takasago found that typing errors were reduced by approximately 50 per cent when a fresh spritz of lemon was added to the room. So if you’re working on an important email or document, come 3pm, a lemony mist or homemade aromatherapy spritzer will help you get the added boost you need for that long meeting or post-work dinner event.

Hack 5. Make an impression (all day long)

Rushing between meetings means you need your scent to stay put. An eau de parfum can only take you so far, so if you want your fragrance to last that little bit longer, try swiping Vaseline on the inside of your wrist before spritzing. It will help you hold onto your scent for longer throughout the day.
