Louise Roe’s Guide to LA

The British native spills her secret spots and locals-only hangouts in the city she now calls home

1) Malibu Beach Inn

We came down here for the weekend recently. You can eat dinner by the fire as the sun sets over the ocean, get up in the morning and surf right outside your bedroom.

2) Malibu Farm

The yummiest brunch spot, all the way out on Malibu pier. I love the quinoa porridge with coconut milk.

3) Adamson House

Back when Malibu was just a dirt road, this house was built by a famous family, who had glamorous pool parties, Great Gatsby style. I love walking around imagining it in its heyday.

4) Neuehouse

Such a cool new spot in Hollywood for different industries to mingle and create, I hosted a dinner here recently on the rooftop.

5) The Apartment by the Line

I’m obsessed with this place! A store but laid out like your dream apartment. It’s on Melrose Place, which is my favorite place to wander and get coffee or meet friends.

6) Farmer’s Market

Every Sunday I head to the Farmer’s market at Fryman Canyon – there are so many food trucks and local yummy things. Persimmons are a fruit I discovered here in LA, so good.

7) Elodie K

My friend Elodie is a very talented jewelry designer and has her own boutique on Melrose Place. It’s a must for finding new and upcoming designers, especially ones you can’t find elsewhere in LA.

8) Alfred Coffee

Believe it or not, LA is a little behind Australia in getting good quality coffee! Alfred and Verve are my two faves here…I’m slowly teaching them what a flat white is!

9) RH Modern

The new spin-off interior store from Restoration Hardware. I’m renovating my house right now and this place is heaven!
