Five Minutes With… Illustrator Cristina Re

What does a day in the life of this illustrator look like?

As I am the owner and Creative Director of Cristina Re, my day-to-day work involves running my business as well as illustrating on the side when it comes to creating new tea ware collections.   I have always been passionate about art since I was a child, and can remember illustrating at a very young age. I embraced my artistic ambitions and started my own design business immediately after graduating from uni, which allowed me the freedom to pursue an artistic career. Fashion illustration as well as illustrating flora and fauna and intricate patterns has been a key component of my design work which appear on all of my stationery and home ware ranges.

My process is fairly planned in the beginning when I first start to sketch the basic idea and linework, however then I am fairly fluid when using mediums and just let it happen.  I love to experiment with more than one medium. I generally love to use ink and watercolour however I also love to experiment with charcoal and pencil. I’m also passionate about collage and incorporating papercraft into some of my artistic pieces.

In the beginning, I started illustrating cards and stationery so it took a little while to become recognised however I have been very fortunate to have been able to  translate my art to products and sell them to stores all over the world.   In my case, you could say my greatest achievement is to see my illustrations and designs translated to my stationery and teaware collections. I am always so proud to see my creations come to life and to know that they will be loved by many people that purchase and collect my collections.
