I’m no stranger to New York, but I was pretty excited for my first time attending shows at NYFW! This was the first season where the main events venue had change (no more Bryant Park tents!), so it meant I got to explore the city quite a bit as there was a lot of running across town to make it to different shows in various locations.
It still felt like Summer when I arrived, so I liked to start the day off with an iced latte followed by a good breakfast. My favourites are avocado toast at Cafe Gitane or an acai bowl at Two Hands (above), both in Soho.
On the first day I wore heels, but between running to the subway, walking across cobblestoned streets and the heat I quickly made the switch to flats – good sandals and sneakers were necessary!
Refueling between shows with friends was another New York treat, most of my shows were on the West Side so I loved popping into Chelsea Markets for a variety of amazing eats or Bluestone Collective (above), an Australian cafe that does incredible brunch. For dinner, a few of my favourites were pizza at Keste or pasta at Cotenna (both in the West Village), or An Choi and Dudley’s (on the same street in the Lower East Side). The best on-the-go snacks are bagels, pretzels or roasted nuts which you can find at most local stores and street vendors – Tompkins Square Bagels near my hotel is always a favourite.
I decided to split my week between a gorgeous little loft in Williamsburg (bottom), and The Ludlow Hotel (top) on LES, both were amazing places to stay with beautiful interiors too. Having a Metrocard is definitely handy as sometimes traffic can get pretty bad, I also caught lots of Ubers, the fare split option makes it a great way to get to shows with friends.
By day three I had mastered my supply kit – a spare camera battery, memory card, my phone charger, bandaids and a travel umbrella. All in all it was a great week and such a fun experience. I can’t wait to go again!
