You never really know what to expect when you interview a celebrity. Some like to stick to a script interview after interview, then there are those who are happy to give you their opinion on, well, pretty much everything. Cue this month’s cover girl, Anna Kendrick. You can catch our full interview with the Pitch Perfect 2 star in Issue 21 of The Collective, but here are some extra moments we had to share. Read on as we talk eyebrow grooming, harsh truths and her growing obsession with Eurovision.
Biggest pet peeve?
Oh, that button down shirts now, women’s shirts, they put the buttons on the other side to be more masculine or something. I’m not ready for that at this point in my life, you know? It’s been too long, cut it out fashion. Stop it.
There’s a song by Clem Snide called ‘Your Favourite Music’ and the director of Rocket Science, that was the second movie I ever did, played that over and over during rehearsals on our first day. And it’s one of my favourite songs now and I don’t know, it’s like a seminal moment in my career even though I didn’t really know it at the time.
I once got my eyebrows waxed and they were really, really thin even though she promised me they wouldn’t be. And I learned that you cannot trust anybody with your eyebrows but yourself and some Tweezerman.
I remember my friend telling me, I was going through a break up and I was like ‘I just can’t stop thinking is he saying the same things to her and all that stuff?’ And she was like ‘yeh, probably’. And I was like oh my god, thank you for being honest, of course he is.
Best part of Pitch Perfect 2 hitting theatres?
Umm… I don’t know… For one thing, parents will have something else to watch. Somebody just told me recently that they were so excited for the second movie to come out so that they’d have another movie on repeat at their house ’cause their kids watch the first movie over and over and over again. So you know, hoping to give parents some new material to deal with after Frozen.
Meeting the winner of Eurovision 2014?
I did, she was very lovely. I’ve been aware of Eurovision for a couple of years now. I [didn’t] even think about that until recently somebody mentioned that the Pitch Perfect 2 competition looked like Eurovision even though we’re not writing original songs. I don’t know maybe we’re just trying to tap into sweet, sweet Eurovision fever. Conchita was really nice though and she sang live and she was gorgeous.
You should definitely watch it, Australia is competing for the first time this year…
I don’t know, I don’t even know if I can. I don’t think that it airs on any of our channels.
Wait, but you guys love it but you’ve never done it before?? Alright, I’m gonna have to get in on Eurovision.
