Last night’s balmy autumn air set the scene for fashion’s A-list, which gathered to toast the announcement of the preliminary schedule for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia (MBFWA) Resort 18 Collections. The Ovolo Hotel in Woolloomooloo formed the venue and official off-site office for this year’s MBFWA.

Upon arrival, we are greeted by friendly staff and the latest Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupé. What do you wear when you’re rubbing shoulders with designers, stylists, magazine editors, models and fashion publicists? Black. Lots of black. It is a little nerve racking when you know your audience is going to nail casual yet cool. There were some edgier looks and some avant-garde, but, for the most part, it was a safe fashion dress code for the evening.

Dion Lee was announced as the lead show to kick off MBFWA. Sass & Bide will return to the runway after a long absence, and Redken 5th Avenue celebrate 10 years as the hair queens of Australian fashion. There were speeches from the minister for Tourism NSW, Mercedes Benz and IMG. Delicious canapés and Pol Roger were amply supplied, as were the endless beats. A fun and uplifting evening all in all, so bring on fashion week!
