Inside Australia’s Most Successful Tech Company’s Global Hackathon

Collective Hub is all about bringing ideas to life. We love being a place where people share their stories of making a positive impact on the world, and in turn inspire the next wave of changemakers.

So when the Atlasssian work futurist himself Dominic Price invited Collective Hub to participate in its global ShipIt initiative, where teams work on an idea of their choice for 24 hours, we didn’t hesitate. Although Atlassian is a tech startup, the event was welcome to anyone with an idea to grow. While the event is called ShipIt, you don’t actually have to ship a final “product” in 24 hours. You instead “ship” a robust concept and plan, with an etched-out path to the next stage.

“We do it as we want a culture of innovation. Some believe in the ‘lone genius’, but we believe everyone can be innovative and creative when given the freedom of time,” says Dominic.

Take a look inside #Shipit38 – a 24-hour ideas hackathon and see what our team came up with.

So, what is it?

This quarter, 350 teams globally participated in ShipIt (they’re hosted quarterly). Here’s the gist:

1. Find what inspires you and pick an idea/problem/challenge to suit
2. Get a crew and diversify your skillset
3. Get working – focused energy on one idea for 24 hours
4. Present your team’s idea
5. The best idea wins!

One of the most frequently asked questions is, what do you win? There’s a cheap trophy for recognition, bragging rights, and, importantly, a chance to see your idea come to life.

What did Team Collective Hub do?

We didn’t have a team of engineers, designers and developers to technically solve some of the world’s issues… so we focused on what was important to us: You. The Collective Hub community.

Our purpose at Collective Hub is to ignite human potential. Everything we do, whether it is our content, events, books, masterclasses, or partnerships, we’re working towards the ultimate goal of inspiring and educating people to be the best versions of themselves.

“We do it as we want a culture of innovation. Some believe in the ‘lone genius’, but we believe everyone can be innovative and creative when given the freedom of time.”

We really want to engage with our community. We know that when people read our stories and share our content, they are inspired, so how can we scale this impact?

Welcome to our Shipit baby: CollectiveHubLIVE

An initiative run by the Collective Hub community for the Collective Hub community. A place where stories are shared on scale, where successes and failures are celebrated in a live setting. A concept that is based on karma methodology; giving and receiving. A place where we can all connect, no matter where we are. A place where ideas are supported and brought to life with no geographical boundary, yet relish in face-to-face connection. And that’s just the beginning!
