Turia Pitt defied doctors’ predictions in order to walk and talk again. Now, she’s teaching people the power of self transformation – and how to accept their own scars. Here’s how the ultramarathon runner got back on track:
HOW DO I LOVE ME?
Spend some time getting clear on who you are. Make a list of the things that fuel you, the things you love to do, which lift you up and make you feel whole. These are the things that will drive your success.
CLARITY CREATES POWER.
Get clear and specific about what you want and, more importantly, why you want it.
BREAK THOSE BARRIERS.
Try to anticipate all the obstacles that stand between you and your goal and find ways to overcome them. Don’t be surprised if the biggest obstacle is actually you! Practice turning the volume down on your inner critic.
SUCCESS IS A TEAM EFFORT.
So, cultivate a kick-ass crew – this means surrounding yourself with driven and like-minded people.
BABY STEPS, BABY!
It’s great to know where you’re going and what you want, but it’s easy to give up when you just focus on the long game. So, focus on making small improvements instead and your big goals might creep up on you.
LOOK AFTER YOURSELF.
You’re going to need a solid foundation to work from – this means a healthy body and healthy mind. Prioritise your health, always, which means different things to different people. Find what works for you, whether it’s meditation, yoga, running or just being in nature.
BE CONSISTENT AND STICK TO IT.
Champions in any field make a habit of doing what others find boring or uncomfortable – and repeating it over and over. Consistency is key. It’s what we do day in and day out that makes a difference.
