Poppy Delevingne talks London fashion week, her style inspo and how to find a good British ale

Poppy_Delevingne_552_Jem_Mitchell_AModel, London Fashion Week ambassador, Marc Jacob’s muse and now a fashion designer herself, Poppy Delevingne says the best advice she has for those embarking on the designer journey is simple: wholehearted dedication. “And a clear goal of what exactly you want to achieve, day by day.”

What comes first, good design or fame?

Good design. Nothing beats knowledge.

Emerging British designers to watch in 2015?

Marques Almeida, 1205 and Ryan Lo.

Your advice for young designers?

Within your team, you need someone who’s finance savvy. For obvious reasons, it’s vital for longevity.

What’s the best part of being an ambassador with the British Fashion Council?

Getting to see designers grow and evolve season after season. It makes my heart burst.

How does your personal style reflect British fashion?

I would say my style changes on a daily basis. I dress to suit my mood and that’s what I love about British fashion; it surprises you. At the moment I’m loving Osman Yousefzada, Erdem, Jonathan Saunders, Mary Katrantzou and Emilia Wickstead.

What’s the best way to find inspiration and to remain inspired?

Have an open mind and feed your curiosity. I never stop visiting studios, galleries, museums [and] markets, wherever I am in the world. I live for discovery.

If you were to show us ‘your’ London, where would you take us and why?

To a good old British pub. I know one with no name, down a bleak, cobbled street, which serves terrific ales. You wouldn’t even be able to find it without me. It’s like Narnia!

What does London fashion represent?

Imagination, freedom and a sense of humour.
